Shahana Goswami Reacts to Santosh's Oscar Nomination!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) revealed the list of films that qualify for the 2025 Oscars on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Santosh, an international co-production in Hindi that takes place in rural northern India, was nominated for Best International Feature Film. Actress Shahana Goswami celebrated the accomplishment on Instagram, expressing her happiness and pleasure and referring to it as a "little glory of recognition."
Shahana Goswami sent a message on her Instagram account expressing her happiness, "So happy for the team especially our writer director Sandhya Suri for this little glory of recognition for our film Santosh! How incredible to be shortlisted from amongst 85 films. Thank you to everyone who loved it, supported it and voted for it."

In the Sandhya Suri-directed film, Shahana plays a resolute young widow who, through a government initiative, assumes her late husband's position as a police constable.
As she works with Inspector Sharma (Sunita Rajwar), a seasoned but tough detective, on the investigation of a brutal murder involving a Dalit young girl, she negotiates entrenched corruption.
Out of 85 entries from nations across the globe, 15 films have made it to the Oscar shortlist in this category. Santosh was selected by the UK as their official 2025 Academy Awards submission. The movie was well received by critics when it debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024.
India's entry, Laapataa Ladies, was not selected for the Academy's 97th Academy Awards shortlist. Nonetheless, Anuja, directed by Guneet Monga Kapoor, won an award in the Live-Action Short Film category.
