Since Laapataa Ladies was chosen as India's official Oscar submission, everyone's attention has been drawn to Aamir Khan's film. The actor recently discussed the importance of winning an Oscar for India in an interview. “People in India would go 'ballistic' if Laapataa Ladies were to win the prestigious Academy Award because they have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film, which hasn't happened yet,” he said.
Aamir Khan discussed his ideas on what it would mean for India to win an Oscar in a media interview. Even though he doesn't take contests very seriously, he said he would be truly delighted if Laapataa Ladies prevailed. He asserts that an Oscar win gives a movie a huge chance since it generates attention throughout the world and draws a much wider audience who are curious to find out what makes the movie unique.
Khan also discussed how Indians would respond if Laapataa Ladies were to win the esteemed prize. He pointed out that India, a country that loves movies, has long aspired to win an Academy Award for an Indian film, but this goal has not yet been accomplished.
"The country would go ballistic" with people rejoicing madly, the Dil actor continued, adding that he would be ecstatic to witness the delight it would offer to Indian spectators.
Only three Indian films—Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan—have received nominations in the Oscars' International Feature Film category, although none of them have won.
More recently, The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short and RRR won Best Original Song. In addition, All That Breathes and Writing with Fire were nominated for Best Documentary Feature.
Expectations are high now that Laapataa Ladies are in the public eye. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, is when the Oscar 2025 shortlist will be announced.
