Jenna Ortega advocates for the creation of original female-led franchises!
Jenna Ortega, noted for her bold and dramatic performances, is making a strong argument for more original female-led franchises in Hollywood. During a recent interview with a media outlet to promote her current picture, Beetlejuice, Ortega discussed the need of crafting unique storylines for women rather than merely reworking old male-led series.

In a media interview, Jenna Ortega was asked if she would consider portraying a gender-flipped version of a renowned character, specifically if Tim Burton offered her the role of Edith Scissorhands, a spin on the original Edward Scissorhands. Ortega welcomed the notion of more female leads, but she preferred new, original characters over rehashes of male characters.

“I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays; I think that’s so special. But we should have our own,” Ortega stated. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff—I don’t want to see like ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another badass.” Her views highlight the growing demand for unique female-led storylines that can stand on their own without being impacted by the heritage of male-driven narratives.

Ortega's attitude adds to the debate in Hollywood over gender representation in film franchises. While there has been a noteworthy surge in female-led ventures, the practice of making gender-flipped copies of popular male characters has evoked conflicting views. Some see it as a method to encourage diversity, but Ortega thinks it is more meaningful to create whole new female characters.
