Ben Stiller Reflects on Creative Struggles in Hollywood!
Ben Stiller, the filmmaker of Severance, feels that some elements of modern Hollywood depict a dismal world for artists. While talking about the highly regarded Severance Season 2, Stiller emphasized the gap between creators and industry decision-makers.

Stiller said in a media chat with a daily, "At a certain point, there’s always somebody making a decision who is not making it to your face, or you don’t even know who that person is."

People in the show have surgery to keep their personal and professional life apart. Stiller says this idea reflects the conflict in Hollywood, where choices that affect creators are sometimes made by obscure executives.

Stiller also bemoaned the fact that he was not informed about agreements. He clarified, "Why a decision is made is never explained to the creative person. Or, if it is, it’s usually not the truth. It’s a cliché in Hollywood, but it’s kind of true that everybody will say yes, and it doesn’t mean yes. It means no or ‘let me think about it’—more than ever, honestly."

Stiller ascribes these issues to more significant industry issues, such as post-pandemic limitations, increased manufacturing costs, and the fallout from industry-wide strikes.

He also said, "It’s a very tough environment now to get things made. The strike, post-Covid—it’s more expensive to make things, and I think the decision-makers are trying to keep their jobs and figure out how to make things work for them, which means constriction and choices that are safer."

On January 17, Severance Season 2 will debut on Apple TV+.
