Heartbreak at the Oscars: Priyanka Chopras Anuja Misses Out on Top Honor Mon March 03rd, 2025

At the 97th Academy Awards, often known as the Oscars 2025, fans were excited to see what would happen to the American-Hindi film Anuja, which was backed by Priyanka Chopra. However, it has been revealed that the Dutch sci-fi movie I'm Not a Robot has won the coveted Best Live Action Short Film award.

Notably, A Lien (English), I'm Not a Robot (Dutch), The Last Ranger (English and Xhosa), and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatian) were all fierce rivals of Priyanka Chopra's Anuja.

The Academy declared I'm Not a Robot, a Dutch film, the winner on Monday, March 3. As part of the official announcement posted on X, the group tweeted congratulations, saying, "Congratulations, I’M NOT A ROBOT is taking home the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film!"

Notably, Anuja, which was directed by Adam J. Graves, was one of just two Indian-related films nominated this year. The other was the documentary I Am Ready, Warden, which was made by Smriti Mundhra and was a contender for the Best Documentary Short Film prize.

For those who are unaware, Priyanka Chopra, Mindy Kaling, and Guneet Monga support Anuja. Prior to this, the short film had received praise from prominent film festivals like the Montclair Film Festival, the New York Shorts International Film Festival, and the HollyShorts Film Festival.

The poignant tale of two sisters battling poverty is told in Anuja. They fight to find happiness and opportunity in a world that tries to take advantage of and reject them.

In a previous formal statement, Priyanka Chopra expressed her excitement about the nomination by saying, “Telling meaningful stories that resonate with audiences is what drives us, and I’m beyond thrilled to see Anuja receive this well-deserved recognition."
