Kiran Rao opens up on sending Laapataa Ladies for Oscars! Tue February 20th, 2024

Kiran Rao is presently preparing for the premiere of Laapataa Ladies, her eagerly anticipated directorial endeavour. The filmmaker was recently in Delhi to promote the comedy-drama, which has been generating a lot of interest thanks to its promos. She was questioned about her plans to submit the movie for an Oscar during a press conference.

A daily newspaper reported that Kiran Rao promoted her film Laapataa Ladies by attending a press conference in Delhi on February 19. When asked if she would submit the movie for an Oscar, she said yes. In response, she stated that the way audiences perceive her work serves as her "primary recognition." She revealed, "Our primary recognition comes from the audience's response at the box office. If the viewers and the nation appreciate our work, that would be the greatest accolade for us."

She further added, "Following that, we will consider submitting the film for the Oscars next year. There is a specific community tasked with assessing and selecting the finest films of the year, and if our film is deemed worthy, we will submit it for the prestigious Oscars. However, for now, we are eagerly anticipating the recognition we are yet to receive on March 1, 2024, hinting at the film's release."

Kiran Rao stated in a conversation with a media source that she was working on a screenplay for her next movie, but it wasn't coming together. When Aamir Khan approached her after a screenplay competition and gave her a one-liner, everything changed. “Aamir came home and told me a one-liner, about two girls on a train and how they get swapped. And I was hooked. I knew that this was not just a great story but also a great opportunity for me", she revealed.
