Timothee Chalamet's 5-Year 'Unknown' Transformation!
Wed January 29th, 2025
Timothee Chalamet disclosed that he gained twenty pounds and underwent five years of training to become the iconic folk singer/songwriter in A Complete Unknown.
Chalamet talked about how he really embraced the role in a media chat. As part of a complete dedication to Dylan's image, he put on weight in addition to voice and manner training.
The COVID-19 pandemic delayed production, thus Chalamet's preparation, which was supposed to take four months, took almost five years. It gave Chalamet more time to hone his performance, learning Dylan's unique singing and playing technique and observing his gestures.
He revealed, "I've turned over every stone. I did all the work, like you just described, physically and behaviorally. But something we haven't really talked about is that I also put on 20 pounds because, believe it or not, I was thinner than the guy, you know?"
According to the Little Women actor, he needed to alter both his technique and his body. Chalamet had to put on weight to resemble the singer, despite Dylan's reputation for having a slender figure. During the conversation, director James Mangold verified this unexpected detail, which made people laugh. He told, "You had to fatten up to become Bob Dylan. That's hilarious."
Chalamet described his practice with Dylan as being extremely absorbing, going beyond the technical and physical aspects; he naturally immersed himself in the musician's work. Chalamet clarified, "It was really a process of osmosis. You know, I don't have categories. I don't have a ruler with different sections of stuff that I'm learning. I really try to do it all at once, and my way in was the music."
Because of his portrayal, Timothée Chalamet was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, becoming the youngest person to be nominated twice in the same category since James Dean. All throughout the world, cinemas are showing A Complete Unknown.
