The subject of Hans Zimmer's orchestral composition for Dune: Part Two not being considered for an Academy Award was recently addressed by Denis Villeneuve. The director even called the music composer a “genius” in an attempt to express his views.
Denis Villeneuve commented on the movie's exclusion from the Best Original Score category, saying, “I am absolutely against the decision of the Academy to exclude Hans, frankly, because I feel like his score is one of the best scores of the year.”
According to a news outlet, the three-time Oscar nominee continued by adding, “I don’t use the word genius often, but Hans is one.”
Villeneuve went on to clarify that the soundtrack for the second episode of his Dune is connected to the first one since it is a "continuity of Part One."
He added that the score itself is a continuation of a single, large film that has been divided into two parts.
The music producer of Dunkirk and Interstellar was nominated for Best Original Score at the Golden Globes, but he was not included in this year's Academy Awards.
Zimmer previously won the Oscar for Best Original Score for the original Dune movie.
