Celebrated Makeup Artist Al Schultz's sad demise at 82!
At the age of 82, renowned makeup artist Al Schultz, who was married to Vicki Lawrence and created looks for some of the biggest TV shows of the 1960s and 1970s, passed suddenly. According to his publicist, Schultz passed away on June 19 at his Long Beach, California, home. No reason for the death was stated.

Schultz began working in cosmetics in the middle of the 1960s. Harry Maret, who had worked with Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, and Donna Reed, served as his mentor. After working on programs like Hollywood Squares and Laugh-In at NBC, Schultz finally moved on to work with the Golddiggers at The Dean Martin Show.

When Schultz was sent to CBS Television City by the Makeup Artists Union in 1968, that was his big break. He happened to pass Carol Burnett's dressing area there and caught her attention. For the ensuing ten years, the pair collaborated. Schultz was The Carol Burnett Show's head of makeup, doing makeup on Burnett, Lawrence, and other actors. He got to know Lawrence and fell in love with her while he was working on the show.

Schultz made the decision to reduce his rigorous schedule in the beginning of the 1980s in order to spend more time with Lawrence and their two kids, Courtney and Garrett.

Schultz, who was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 1942, played football for the University of Missouri before suffering a knee injury that ended his athletic career. After that, he relocated to Hollywood, where he worked as a grip and dolly operator for a while before becoming a makeup artist.

In addition to enjoying time spent with his wife and children in Hawaii and at their Long Beach house, Schultz had a strong enthusiasm for sailboat racing.

Vicki Lawrence, Schultz's wife of fifty years, and their two kids survive him.
