Aamir Khan was commended for creating movies that are more than just entertainment during a media chat. Khan was quick to acknowledge, "Not nice!" when asked about some recent movies that promote a more chauvinistic idea of what a guy should be.
He went on to say, "It pushes us back a decade. So that's sad. I wish we didn't see that, but that's part of life." Mr. Perfectionist stressed that people have different opinions, each to their own. "A lot of people endorse patriarchy in a strong way, a lot of people endorse patriarchy in a very hidden way," He added, acknowledging that it is a problem that we must face.
The producer of Laapataa Ladies also acknowledged that patriarchy is a deeply ingrained idea that would take time to eradicate. Aamir Khan admitted, albeit reluctantly, that "males are very insecure" in a patriarchal culture. He underlined that a lot of males think they have the authority to determine how much autonomy the women in their lives should have.
"And that's not so nice, but I feel that these are things that will gradually change. And stories can really change people's hearts," he said. During an argument, the 59-year-old said that using logic to try to convince someone doesn't really work. He said that change might occur gradually through emotional connections—characters and tales that resonate with people.
"It is very unlikely to see a change happening overnight, especially in something like patriarchy," he further told by ending chat.
