Emraan Hashmi opens up on his 'serial kisser' tag in Bollywood!
Murder, an erotic thriller directed by Anurag Basu in 2006, gave actor Emraan Hashmi his big break. In the movie, Hashmi portrayed an antagonistic role as an infatuated lover who had multiple kissing sequences.

Following Murder, the actor carried on with lip-lock scenes in his other films, earning him the early 2000s moniker of "serial kisser" in Bollywood.

Emraan Hashmi discussed being stereotyped as a serial kisser in Hindi movies in a recent podcast.

"I think bahot saare artists ke sath ek patent cheez ho jaati hai, ek image set ho jaata hai, aur wo unka saath nahin chodhta hai (With many artists it becomes a patent thing, an image is set, and it doesn't leave them)," Hashmi told.

The Showtime star mentioned Shah Rukh Khan, saying that although the superstar has had a distinguished career, most people associate him with his famous arms-opening posture.

Hashmi referred to it as a "compliment" for Shah Rukh and mentioned that Anil Kapoor's "Jhakaas" language and Salman Khan's removal of his T-shirt during movies are their trademarks.

Actors have a branding that makes them easier to identify, according to Emraan Hashmi. Hashmi gave an example, saying that during his career, he would be known as a serial kisser in many movies.

"I don't blame the audience. A large part of my career until 2009, 7-8 saal tak, woh image thaa mera joh producers sell kar rahey the. Mai khud sell kar raha tha (A large part of my career till 2009, for 7-8 years, it was my image that the producers were selling. I was selling it myself)," the actor revealed.

When discussing the lip-lock sequences in Murder, Hashmi stated that the audience had never seen such "bold quotient" and "unapologetic rebellious characters" before, making it a "sticking point" in Hindi movie history.

The actor went on to say that, in contrast to other heroes who would be "righteous," his characters were "tainted" and would engage in "unethical activities" at that time.
