Winona Ryder opens up on her long-time friendship with director Tim Burton!
Winona Ryder recently spoke on her longtime friendship with filmmaker Tim Burton, with whom she originally worked on the renowned 1988 dark fantasy comedy film Beetlejuice.

Ryder rose to prominence after her outstanding performance in this film, and she has returned to play her beloved character, Lydia Deetz, from the original film in the upcoming sequel.

Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, who co-starred in Beetlejuice 2, recently attended filmmaker Tim Burton's Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony, where they lauded Burton and his directing abilities. Ryder gave a poignant statement during the ceremony, paying respect to him and reflecting on her close friendship with the Alice in Wonderland director, stating, "Tim, your friendship has been such an enormous gift," adding, "When I met you, I was a weird kid."

The Haunted Mansion actress went on to say that Burton validated her voice and helped her "reinforce" her confidence, even when she went against the tides of "conformity." She noted that his creative openness demonstrated true artistic collaboration and helped her feel that being a "weird girl" was not only acceptable, but even "cool."

The Black Swan actress went on to say, "You've carried that torch for us weirdos, making us all feel seen and valued," emphasizing Burton's exquisite and unique grasp of the human heart. She also stated that he understands the anguish of "those who are misunderstood, strange, and unusual."

Ryder stated that Burton understands and embraces such people, whether they are outcasts, oddballs, terrifying, or humorous. She claims that he offers them depth, humor, and a feeling of "gallantry" while always preserving their dignity, stating, "His heroes are the very outcasts that he loves."

Winona Ryder and Tim Burton collaborated on several films, including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Frankenweenie (where she voiced Elsa Van Helsing). She just reunited with him for the upcoming picture Beetlejuice 2, which will open in theaters on September 6, 2024.
