Siddharth Roy Kapur obtains rights for India's first CEC Sukumar Sen's biopic!
Nobody enjoys a good biopic? It was recently revealed that a biopic about Sukumar Sen, the country's first Chief Election Commissioner, is currently under production. The rights to Sen's extraordinary story have been acquired by Trickitainment Media and film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur. The film is set to release on a giant screen soon.

The production company of Siddharth, Roy Kapur Films (RKF), which recently provided funding for Rocket Boys, has acquired the rights to make a film about the man who designed India's first general elections in 1951–1952, which marked the start of the country's independent democratic revolution. The announcement of this inspirational biography was made by the filmmakers just before the nation's 18th General Elections countdown began.

Siddharth Roy Kapur said in a media statement that he was privileged to tell the amazing tale of Sukumar Sen, one of the national heroes who, in his own words, was instrumental in defining the course of India's democratic history.

Siddharth went on to explain how Sukumar's innovations are still in use today, from the system of identifying political parties by different symbols and colors to combat illiteracy to the idea of indelible ink on fingernails to prevent voter impersonation.

He further revealed, “His contribution to laying the architecture for our democratic process deserves to be celebrated and we look forward to bringing audiences in India and around the world this thrilling story of our very first election and the amazing man behind it.”

In a media release, Sukumar's grandson Sanjiv Sen also stated that free and fair elections are the cornerstone of any democracy, and that his grandfather should be credited for creating this basis. He went on, “I wish the producers all the success to portray the untold story of an unsung hero of this great nation.”

“I congratulate the producers and wish them all success in their endeavor. This is a laudable effort to make the people of our country aware of a remarkable person and his achievements,” further added his second grandson Debdatta Sen.
