Shreyas Talpade opens up on opting for a supporting role in SRK's Om Shanti Om! Tue May 07th, 2024

Om Shanti Om, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, was released in 2007. The film, which was directed by Farah Khan, also featured Shreyas Talpade in a prominent role as Om's devoted and selfless friend Pappu. He was greatly appreciated for his character.

However, before Om Shanti Om, Shreyas had portrayed the principal parts. The actor from Welcome to the Jungle recently discussed if he thought his supporting role overshadowed his accomplishments to date in an interview.

Shreyas Talpade talked about working on Om Shanti Om alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan in a recent interview with a channel. When the actor was asked about his thoughts on playing a supporting part, he expressed how much he wanted to collaborate with them both.

According to professional theory, he shouldn't have done the movie because he had starring roles in movies like Iqbal and Dor previously. He made the claim that he "should have probably gone for meatier roles, lead roles, and solo films," using the movie Apna Sapna Money Money as an example.

The actor did admit, though, that a different part of him desired to collaborate with SRK and Farah. The actor shared his opinion, saying that it meant a lot to him because he came from a lowly background and had no relatives.

He revealed, “You get an opportunity to work with Shah and Farah, and you feel boss, I want to work with them. Yeah, I know it’s a secondary role, but I want to work with him. When do you think will I get an opportunity to work with him again? So, all these running in your mind simultaneously and should I say no to a Shah Rukh Khan right now when I am so new in my career, and you never know what the repercussions would be.”

Shreyas further revealed, “So you are naïve, and you don’t have anyone to guide or tell you, okay relax, it is just the beginning, things are going to follow take your time, but then you also want to prove yourself be in that camp quote unquote, do certain things together, and you do those films which eventually you realize agar nahin karta to bhi shayad chal jata, shayad kuch aur hota (if I hadn't done those films it still would’ve worked out) but having said that no regrets whatsoever.”

The next film starring Shreyas is Kartam Bhugtam, which is slated for release on May 17, 2024.
