Govinda Reacts to Reports of Late Arrivals on Set: 'Chela of Dilip Kumar'!
Despite being considered one of India's best actors, Govinda has a reputation for regularly being late to movie sets. Many people think that his career declined in the 2000s as a result of this habit. Govinda recently talked candidly about his tardiness, stating that he saw himself as a "chela" devotee of the renowned Dilip Kumar. He revealed, "Jab tak mere sur-taal sahi na ho jaye, main set par pahuchta hi nahi tha (Until my rhythm and tune were perfect, I wouldn't even arrive on set)."

Govinda provided details about his work philosophy in a media conversation on his YouTube channel, Bheeshm International. He explained that he did not consciously believe in being late and identified himself as a follower of the renowned actor Dilip Kumar.

He clarified that he would take some time to mentally and emotionally prepare before going on set, much way classical musicians practice their instruments before a performance. He made it clear that he had never been dishonest about this practice or compromised on it.

The Partner actor also disclosed that at one point, he was juggling almost 40 movies at once and was always switching between sets.

The Bhagam Bhag actor reflected on his difficulties, saying that, lacking a formal education, he had to navigate the film industry in an unexpected way. He acknowledged Dilip Kumar as his mentor, saying he might not have made it in the business if he hadn't met the seasoned actor.

Govinda remembered that Dilip Kumar had suggested that he drop 25 films, but he was hesitant because he was concerned about the financial consequences. Dilip Kumar, however, comforted him by promising to set up the funds if necessary and advising him to heed his counsel. In the end, Govinda consented to leave those initiatives because he trusted his instructor.

Dilip Kumar, who had just recently avoided financial difficulties, was cautioned against listening to Govinda when he sought advise from a financier.

Govinda, however, viewed the seasoned actor as a sincere well-wisher, pointing out that despite his demanding schedule—which occasionally involved working 16 straight days—no one else had expressed concern for his well-being.

He also defended his tardiness on set, stating that he had to carefully manage his time to meet all of his professional responsibilities due to his many film engagements.
