Mon February 05th, 2024
On Monday, the much-anticipated Grammy Awards 2024 winners were revealed. The main event was held in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena. The fact that famed singer-musician Shankar Mahadevan won his first-ever Grammy made the moment even more momentous for India. Furthermore, Ustad Zakir Hussain also recorded his significant victory at that momentous occasion.
The formal announcement for the prestigious Grammy Awards 2024 was made a while back, on February 5. Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia won the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance for their collaboration on Pashto. The incredibly large triumph is made even more amazing by the fact that Rakesh Chaurasia took home two Grammys and the Tabla master became the first Indian musician to win three in a single night.
Renowned music composer Ricky Kej celebrated Hussain and Chaurasia's victory on his X, showing his support for the momentous occasion.
Furthermore, Shankar Mahadevan's fusion group Shakti won the Best Global Music Album title for their most recent album, This Moment. Given that this will be the group's first new album in more than 45 years, the accomplishment is all the more amazing.
When the Grammys made their formal announcement, they shared a picture of Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, accepting the coveted award on their X (previously Twitter) page.
“Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy wrote in the post.
Eight tracks on the album This Moment were co-written by guitarist John McLaughlin, tabla player Zakir Hussain, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, drummer V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan.
Shankar Mahadevan thanked his wife for her unwavering support in a heartfelt thank you speech. “Thank you boys and thank you god, family, friends and India. We are proud of you India. Last but not the least, I’d like to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated to,” he shared.
