Vicky Kaushal Opens Up About Chhaava's Deleted Scene! Fri February 07th, 2025
Vicky Kaushal Opens Up About Chhaava's Deleted Scene!
Right now, Vicky Kaushal is occupied with marketing Chhaava, a historical drama that was directed by Laxman Utekar. A Lezim dance scene in which he played Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj caused controversy and was eventually cut from the movie. Kaushal responded by saying that it was only an attempt to promote Maharashtra culture.

In an interview with the media on Thursday in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Vicky Kaushal discussed the Lezim dance sequence. He underlined that from the start, their objective was always pure and good. He said the makers wanted to promote Maharashtra culture globally, which is why they were showing the scene.

“Not a single day went by when we didn't start work on the film without the Shivgarjana (slogans about the courage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj). The lezim part was just for 20–30 seconds (in the film). It was not just a (part of the) story, but it was an effort to take our culture to the globe,” he revealed to a daily.

Vicky added that since Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was a "king of the people," they assumed he would have agreed to play lezim with them if someone had asked him to. "But if his followers feel it was a bit off... It is not important to the movie's story, so we have removed it,” he further revealed while talking with the media.

He also discussed his preparations for the movie Chhaava, which is based on the Marathi novel by Shivaji Sawant. The actor, who previously portrayed Sam Bahadur and Sardar Udham in real life, disclosed that making the jewelry and costumes for the movie took him nearly a year. He revealed that rather than being hired, the costumes were purchased locally.

For those who were unaware, Chhaava was criticized after certain online users took issue with the lezim dance scene that Vicky's character, Maratha King Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, performed in the trailer. Director Laxman Utekar met with MNS head Raj Thackeray after the outcry and confirmed that the segment will be removed from the movie.
