Laapataa Ladies’s official entry in Oscars 2025 from India! Mon September 23rd, 2024

Every Bollywood fan is overjoyed today because Kiran Rao's directorial Laapataa Ladies has officially joined the running for the prestigious Oscars 2025. The film, starring Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, and Nitanshi Goel and produced by Aamir Khan, was chosen from a list of 29 projects, including Ranbir Kapoor's Animal.

In a special session held in Chennai, a 13-member committee of the picture Federation of India, led by Assamese director Jahnu Barua, selected the Aamir-backed picture as the official entry for the 97th Academy Awards. The film will compete in the Best Foreign Film category.

The prestigious list featured films such as Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, Malayalam National Award winner Aattam, Cannes picture Festival winner All We Imagine As Light, Tamil picture Maharaja, Telugu titles Kalki 2898 AD, and Hanu-Man. In addition, Randeep Hooda's Swatantraya Veer Savarkar and Yami Gautam's Article 370 were competing on the list.

In a statement published, ecstatic Kiran Rao conveyed her satisfaction, stating, “I am deeply honored and beyond delighted that our film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of my entire team, whose dedication and passion brought this story to life. Cinema has always been a powerful medium to connect hearts, transcend boundaries, and ignite meaningful conversations. I hope that this film will resonate with audiences across the world, just as it has in India."

She also conveyed her genuine appreciation to the selection committee, calling it a "great privilege" to be chosen among "amazing Indian films." She also appreciated Aamir Khan Productions and Jio Studios for their encouragement and belief in her vision. The director acknowledged her joy at working with a dedicated and accomplished team of experts who all contributed to conveying her story.

She concluded by thanking the whole cast and crew for their amazing skill, devotion, and hard work in making the picture. Furthermore, she thanked the audience for their love, support, and belief, which she believes motivates filmmakers to explore creative boundaries "Thank you once again for this incredible honor. We look forward to taking this journey ahead with great enthusiasm," she further revealed.
