James Van Der Beek, who was just given a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis, wrote an emotional Thanksgiving post on Instagram, reflecting on the difficulties he has faced in life and the support he has received from loved ones.
Given his cancer diagnosis, James Van Der Beek is especially appreciative of the time he was able to spend with his loved ones this Thanksgiving.
On Thursday, November 28, the 47-year-old Dawson's Creek star wrote an emotional statement on Instagram, thanking his 42-year-old "superhuman wife," Kimberly Van Der Beek, for her unwavering devotion. In his statement, he also thanked his followers and his six children, expressing gratitude for helping to keep him active and present during his health battle.
“It’s been a tough year… and I’m thankful for all of it,” Van Der Beek wrote, sharing a heartwarming photo of himself and Kimberly with their children, sons Joshua, 12, and Jeremiah, 2, and girls Olivia, 14, Annabel, 10, Emilia, 8, and Gwendolyn, 6, posing in a field.
He went on further, “For the giant life re-direct cancer has placed in my path. For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends come through on such a profound level, and in ways I never would have been able to ask for had I not been going through it.”
In his Thanksgiving speech, the actor thanked his fans for their unwavering love and support during his difficult period and confirmed that their well wishes do affect his day-to-day existence.
In an exclusive interview with People earlier this month, Van Der Beek disclosed that he had been diagnosed with third-stage colon cancer. He then hailed his "superhuman wife," Kimberly, for supporting him on a level he never imagined was possible. He also thanked her, with whom he has been married since 2010, for exemplifying the power and wonder of unconditional love. "I am amazed by you," he continued.
Van Der Beek referred to his six children as his "blonde army," saying he loves them more than anything else.
Van Der Beek stated that he was receiving treatment when he announced his cancer diagnosis to the world through People, but he did not provide any other information.
